불광천의 버스 정류장 앞, 대기하는 사람들과 분주히 오가는 사람들, 그리고 차량들이 뒤섞여 흐르는 거리 앞에 카페가 자리한다.

외부 벤치에서 내부 벤치, 그리고 디스플레이로 이어지는 시선의 흐름은 진입 이전부터 내부의 성격을 예고한다. 도로와 매장 사이의 작은 단차를 넘어서는 순간, 공간의 첫 장면이 비로소 시작된다.

공간의 중심에는 하나의 기둥이 자리한다. 동선과 좌석, 디스플레이는 모두 이 기둥을 기준으로 조직되며, 기둥은 상부의 조명 구조로 확장되어 공간 전체의 위계를 만든다. 내부는 OSB 합판으로 마감했다. 검정과 갈색이 섞인 레이어가 하나의 면을 이루며, 불규칙한 결이 가공되지 않은 돌의 질감을 연상시킨다. 이 벽면은 내부 공간을 구획함과 동시에 외부로 확장되어 경계를 이룬다.

재료는 역할에 따라 명확히 구분된다. 시각적 중심은 OSB가 담당하고, 촉각이 개입하는 지점은 코르크가 대신한다. 유리 파사드에 설치된 스테인리스 오브제는 간판과 손잡이의 기능을 겸한다.

이 공간은 단차, 구조, 재료라는 세 요소를 통해 구성되며, 도시 안에 조용한 경계를 세우고 고유한 이질감을 드러낸다.

The café stands before a street on Bulgwangcheon, where waiting passengers, hurried pedestrians, and vehicles converge into a single restless flow.

The sightline that runs from the outer bench to the inner bench, and on to the display, signals the character of the interior before one even enters. It is only upon crossing the small level change between the street and the storefront that the space's first scene truly begins.

A single column anchors the center of the space. Circulation, seating, and display are all organized around it, and the column extends upward into a lighting structure that defines the hierarchy of the entire space. The interior is finished in OSB panel. Layers of black and brown merge into a single surface, its irregular grain recalling the texture of raw, unworked stone. This wall both partitions the interior and extends outward, forming a boundary with the exterior.

Materials are assigned by role. OSB carries the visual center, while cork takes over wherever the body makes contact, preserving a sensory balance. The stainless-steel object set into the glass façade doubles as signage and handle.

Through level change, structure, and material, the space quietly draws a boundary within the city — revealing a distinct sense of dissonance all its own.
